The Gradebook - An Overview |
What is
GradeSpeed? Click here for an interactive video tour of the gradebook.
GradeSpeed is a very powerful, yet
user-friendly gradebook software solution for school campuses
and districts. Its reporting features and customization
abilities are second to none, while the teacher's gradebook
control panel is incredibly easy to use. All important functions
can be completed with just a couple clicks of the mouse.

-
Our software allows student grades to be transferred automatically within the school district.
-
Nearly everything in GradeSpeed™ is customizable - from assignment types and weights, to reporting, to conduct codes, to the grading scale you use... everything can be easily tailored to your district's exact needs.
-
GradeSpeed™ has a very powerful permissions system. So the system administrator can decide exactly what every person needs to have access to... and what they don't.
-
You can access your gradebook user account from your PDA or cell phone! Since GradeSpeed™ is web-based, any device that can access the internet can be used to log into your account for your convenience.
-
GradeSpeed™ offers support for both English and Spanish progress reports, report cards, conduct codes, assignments, and more.
-
The software is built on Microsoft’s .NET framework. .NET provides the fastest and most stable environment for web-based applications.

-
Our system notifies you immediately if your account has been accessed by a computer other than yours. Right when you log in, you are displayed a dialog box that shows you the exact time of infiltration as well as the IP address of the computer used to access your account.
-
GradeSpeed™ generates automatic, restorable backups of all the data within your teachers' gradebooks. Every 2 hours and every time a teacher logs off, our system takes a "snapshot" of all the data inside the gradebook and stores it in a restorable backup. So if anyone gets unauthorized access to a teacher's gradebook and changes some info inside, all the data can be restored to the state it was when the account was last accessed.
-
We can support Microsoft's Active Directory/LDAP to simplify user access and increase security. Users will be able to log in via their network login credentials.
-
ParentConnection, our parental access module, works over a secure connection - supports SSL.
-
You can create and manage unlimited assignments - quickly, easily, and painlessly.
-
GradeSpeed™ offers support for English and Spanish assignment titles.
-
When creating a new assignment, you can specify which state objectives are being taught. State standards will already be set up in the system.
-
You can automatically add assignments to grouped classes. GradeSpeed will even “intelligently” group classes for you. This prevents tedious entry and re-entry of assignments to like classes.
-
GradeSpeed™ offers support for rubric assignments. Furthermore, administrators can create rubrics and pass them down to teachers of a specific grade level or subject.
-
You can attach homework documents to be available in ParentConnection, our parental access module. Inside, parents can monitor their student's grades, attendance, homework, and more.
|
Assignment Categories and Weights |
-
Nearly everything within GradeSpeed™ is customizable. You can set up "homework," "tests," "quizzes," and any other assignment categories that you wish. Then you can specify how each assignment weighs toward students' overall grade.
-
Administrators can set required categories and weights for different subjects at the district or campus level, or simply preset some weights as guidelines for teachers to use when they set their own.
-
Teachers can set up color-coding for each assignment category for clarity and organization.
-
GradeSpeed™ uses Intelligent algorithms for dropping low grades, should you choose to do so. You can set how many low grades can be dropped from each category, as well as a maximum amount of assignments it should drop. Our system will drop the grade that will most adversely affect the student's average, even if the grade itself isn't the lowest. For example, if a student gets a homework grade of 40 and a quiz grade (which weighs more heavily on the student's grade) of 60, the 60 may be dropped if it would lower the student's grade more than the homework assignment.
-
You can weigh assignments as a percent of the students' overall grades or as a multiple. For example, "homework" counts as 1 grade, "quizzes" as 2, and "tests" as 3.
-
The software also provides automatic category handling for grouped courses. For example, all "biology" classes can have the same category settings.
-
Our teacher gradebook has a very simple, easy-to-navigate interface. It's very intuitive. New users will have no trouble logging right in and using it immediately.
-
Scroll through student grades with the arrow keys on your keyboard. The "enter" key moves down, allowing for efficient 10-key grade entry. This makes it very quick and easy to enter grades.
-
View student attendance directly from the main gradebook control panel. Everything is laid out intuitively within the teacher interface for ease of use.
-
Our advanced grade entry features make it easy to enter grades in by student, or by assignment.
-
GradeSpeed™ supports any grading scale - 0-100, A-F, E/S/N/U, or even a custom grading scale that you specify.
-
Teachers can print out progress reports directly from their gradebooks, or they can be generated at the administrative level.
-
Attendance is extremely simple to enter for teachers - one click and they're done!
-
Teacher submissions are posted to your SIS within 90 seconds, and office changes to attendance are pulled from your SIS to GradeSpeed™ within 15 minutes. So teachers and administrators see nearly real-time attendance records.
-
GradeSpeed will pull in attendance data from your SIS. This allows users to view attendance records and use reporting tools without accessing a second system.
-
GradeSpeed™ was the first gradebook software solution to interface with Chancery SMS.
- The attendance clerk can make changes to daily attendance after it's submitted by teachers. Once the change is made, teachers can see the changes reflected in their gradebook, the time of the change and the name of the administrator who changed it.
- If teachers use an SIS tool, rather than GradeSpeed™, to collect attendance...
- ...GradeSpeed™ will still pull attendance from your SIS. Our software currently interfaces with 44+ SIS packages.
- ...attendance records will be available in ParentConnection, our parental access module.
- ...teachers can view attendance and run attendance reports from the gradebook.
-
Our free-form seating chart tool allows teachers to see the students' seating area and freely move them around with the click of their mouse.
-
You can display an actual picture of each student on the free-form seating chart. This is a very handy tool for learning students' names, as well as for substitute teachers.
-
You can also take attendance straight from the seating chart.
-
The seating chart can also be printed for substitute teacher use or for use during standardized testing.

The GradeSpeed Monitor is an advanced schedule viewer. You can view data per-student, per-activity group, or per-teacher. |
| |

 |
Our
View Gradebooks feature in the admin area allows administrators with sufficient permissions to view any teacher's gradebook. This is ideal for principals and support personnel. |

School/District Attendance Tools |
-
Attendance is posted to your SIS within 90 seconds, and office changes to attendance are pulled from your SIS to GradeSpeed™ within 15 minutes. So teachers and administrators see nearly real-time attendance records.
-
Using the teacher components of GradeSpeed™ reduces the load on your SIS server. This makes it run noticeably faster.
-
Using our powerful reporting features, you can monitor all facets of teacher and student progress.
-
You can use our Teacher Verification tools and have teachers sign off on their grades and attendance records before they're printed on report cards or exported into the SIS.
-
Daily attendance summaries allow office administrators and attendance clerks to view attendance records for a teacher (or group of teachers) over a specified time period.
-
By assigning students to activity codes, you open up a whole new world of functionality. For example - administrators can see when band members are going to be missing a school day for a function and coaches can oversee all football players' grades and make sure everyone will remain eligible for the upcoming season.
-
GradeSpeed™ boasts possibly the most powerful reporting features in the industry. The built-in reporting features are second to none, and should fulfill 99% of your needs. But if you need to create additional reports to track different things, we offer a Custom Reports feature. Using a simple SQL query, you can pull any data stored in our database - in any combination. In addition, the new Ad-Hoc Query Designer tool allows custom reports to be created with no SQL knowledge required!
-
Built-in reports for teachers include:
Grade List
Category Averages
Conduct/comments
Assignments
Missing Assignments
Class Roster
Grade List (paper saver)
Attendance Roster
Failure Report
Honor Roll Report
GradeSpeed™ Monitor
-
Administrators have even more helpful reports available to them. Administrators can see...
...which teachers have not turned in attendance.
-
...which teachers are not keeping their grades up to date.
-
...the failure rate among students per teacher. This is extremely helpful for spotting teachers whose failure rate is higher than normal when compared to others.
-
...eligibility reports. These reports, based on your specified criteria, pull up which students are eligible and ineligible to compete in sporting events or participate in other extracurricular activities.
-
...report card data. In fact, administrators can print report cards directly out of GradeSpeed™.
-
Custom reports can be generated using the standard report viewer that's built in to GradeSpeed™, or the Crystal Reports viewer. They can also be saved as a file (ex. Excel *.XLS or *.CSV) that pulls fresh data every time it's loaded.
-
With our proprietary "Report Card Template Designer" application (in conjunction with Microsoft Word 2003), you can create custom report cards tailored to the look and feel of your school. GradeSpeed also has a clean, clear and
easy-to-read report card template built right in to the
gradebook.
-
All tools, settings and preferences can be modified from one central location for ease of use.
-
Supports any grading cycle calendars - 6 week, 9 week, etc...
-
Triggers can be set up so that an administrator or teacher can receive phone, email or text message notification when a student dips below a certain grade threshold that you specify. Attendance can also be monitored.
-
ParentConnection is our parent portal. Parents can create an account and log in to see their student's grades, attendance and other valuable information. What's more, inside ParentConnection they can set up "Triggers." Basically, they can set specified criteria - like the student's grade dipping below a certain level, when he/she misses class, etc... - and then receive automated notification when the criteria is met. Trigger notifications can be sent as a phone call, email or even a text message to your cell phone!
-
Parents can sign up for a ParentConnection account or administrators can create accounts for them.
-
Parent accounts can be auto-approved when they are created, or the system can be set to require administrator approval before each parent is given their account. This helps prevent fraud and unauthorized access.
-
ParentConnection works over a secure connection - supports SSL.
-
Inside the ParentConnection interface, parents have access to a "school calendar" that can be updated and customized to reflect the upcoming events and holidays of your school. Attendance events are also displayed on the calendar.
-
StudentConnection is our online course request system. Courses can be organized to give students recommendations on what they should take during the upcoming school year.
-
Requires only a minimal one-time setup.
-
The approval process for course requests is quick and painless.
